Chandigarh Mayor Election || Supreme Court quashes election result, declares AAP Candidate to be winner
Chandigarh mayoral election || The Supreme Court has declared Aam Aadmi Party's Kuldeep Kumar as the winner of the Chandigarh mayoral election. The Supreme Court has also declared as valid the eight votes which were declared invalid by Returning Officer Anil Masih. On January 30, the election to the post of Mayor of Chandigarh was called a litmus test ahead of the Lok Sabha elections to the joint candidate of the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress.
BJP candidate Manoj Sonkar won the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation by 16 votes. So, out of the 20 votes that AAP candidate Kuldeep Kumar got in the election for the post of mayor of this municipal corporation, 8 were cancelled, which corresponds to 35 councillors and one MP. The BJP has 14 councillors in the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. BJP is the largest party in the country in terms of population. AAP is the second largest party in the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation with 13 councillors. The Congress has seven councillors and the Shiromani Akali Dal one. Local MPs also have the right to vote in the Chandigarh mayoral election. BJP's Kirron Kher is the sitting MP from Chandigarh.
